still image jpg quality

Hello,

I am using a Logitech 9000 with Cheese for capturing stills with
high resolution. The image quality is not so good as I have
expected: zooming in shows ugly jpg pixel blocks.
Is this caused by the encoding of the camera? If not can the
jpg quality be changed?
