Re: [Banshee-List] Banshee doesn't show metadata when playing a streamed flac file

lfreeze, Mac,

Please try first to see if you can reproduce it with a non-FLAC format file, to discard this circumstance of the problem or to associate it with it.

I have the impression, though, that as you're talking about managing music from more than one computer, you're simply craving for this feature to be implemented:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=659719

(After that is fixed, LibraryWatcher could be improve to do that operation out of the box, without the need of performing a Rescan Music Library operation.)

I have just seen a similar problem.

I went through my whole collection on my server and setup all the
compilations so they showed up as an album for a given compilation.
(essentially, I added the album artist tag as "Various Artists")

Though external tag programs, Easytag for example, do not show this tag,
it seems to work fine when displayed by Banshee on the server. On a
remote machine though, the tag is not seen and each song on the album is
listed as a separate album. (on the remote, the compilation checkbox is
unchecked, the field is grayed out and shows the artist name)

Since I can't see the tag in Easytag, I'm guessing the extra info is
locally cached by Banshee and thus isn't seen on a remote.

It just so happens that these are flac files. (I just don't have any
non-flac compilations, so it may not work with mp3 either...)

I don't have any guesses about what would be causing this, but it's
probably worthy of a bug

Totem on the same machine can see the metadata.

I've recently decided to move my music collection from CDs on
         to a hard
drive. I want to box my CDs and have my music available to be
         played by the
many different computers in my house. I'm converting the
         music to flac
files using Asunder, editing the metadata with Ex Falso, and
         importing cover
art from the cli with metaflac. My file server is a headless
         system running
Ubuntu Server 10.10 and I have an assortment of computers
         running different
versions of Windows and Ubuntu accessing the music from around
         the house.

Banshee plays the flac files just fine when they are on the
         local machine
(running Ubuntu 11.04). The issue, however, comes when I move
         those same
files on to the server (using rsync) and play them from
         there. When I do
so, Banshee plays the music fine, but doesn't seem to read or
         display any of
the metadata. Computers running Windows and Winamp display
         the metadata
just fine as does my Ubuntu system when I play the file with
         Totem.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be or how I could fix
         it?
