Re: [Banshee-List] What is the album-artist issue?

What happens for common album titles (MusicBrainz returns at least 50 albums titled "Love")?  The issue starts to get tricky... ;)  As far as I can tell, the best way for Banshee to do this automatically would be some complex check of Album Title, Release Date/Year, and maybe Track Number and Disc Number.  With this information, Banshee could probably reliably group compilations together.  The obvious downfall to this plan is that all of these fields would need to be set to an accurate value, which might be even more of a challenge for some people than just setting the compilation album artist manually.

I've heard claims that other media players handle this automatically, so I'm curious to hear what they're doing.

Why not simply always assume that if there are multiple artists in the
same album, then it is a compilation album. Wouldn't that be less work
for the users?
