In fact, you can see just how bad the application is performing with this little script and log attached.

After playing a 4:31 song, and well before it finishes, banshee maxes out on the available RAM and starts using swap.

I found that the library watcher can be put into a situation where it will mercilessly eat all available memory, and quickly.
