Re: [Banshee-List] Banshee-by-default in Ubuntu talk - happening now

Thanks for this, actually. Maybe I wasn't being clear from the beginning. I
am not writing to this mailing list or to the Ubuntu forums to file bugs; I
am an end user who has questions about how to make something work. This is
just going to be the case with at least 80% of end users. These folks
aren't going to be interested in this side of things. This is a fact of
life. While I GREATLY appreciate the work that the devs do on these open
source projects, it is not realistic to believe that everyone who has an
issue is even going to KNOW that it is an issue worthy of filing a bug
report (or if they are simply doing something wrong...which is the point of
forums and mailing lists, no?). If the dev community want this sort of
feedback, there needs to be a much easier way to relay the info.

Also, I would like to point out that quite a lot of open source devs read
forums and mailing lists for feedback, as they understand that your average
end user isn't going to know how or have time or desire to file bug reports,
especially if some of the responses in this thread are what they are going
to get.

I am absolutely not trying to fan a flame war, but to give some insight. If
"you" (whoever you are in this particular instance) don't want to hear it,
then don't pay any attention, but this is an important point for developers
to understand.

Lastly, I still haven't seen a single response about cover management or
iPod management in 1.4.4 or 1.5, just a lot of folks forcefully telling me
that an end user is supposed to get their questions answered by filing a bug
report. This is a huge reason why I don't believe that Banshee is ready to
be a default music player in any distro; if this thread is representative of
the Banshee community at large, there are going to be millions of people who
will voice their concerns a lot louder and turn to other players if there is
no help available, which is obviously not good for Banshee. Imagine the
entire Ubuntu user base unable to change album artwork (such as it is with
1.4.3). Worse yet, imagine if they can't manage their iPods or other music
players better than they can today.

I truly DO hope that these issues (as well as others mentioned elsewhere on
this list) are able to be solved soon, as I would be overjoyed if Banshee
could do all the things that I consider must-haves as well as some fun stuff
(I love the dynamic playlists in Listen, for example).

So, thanks for the informative responses and for those less than positive to
remind me that there still are Linux users out there who fail to see that
helping others is more important than "being right."
