An update on this monologue: it seems that now with trunk, I get the 
same behavior as I get with Totem (file playback seems to work instead 
of being aborted, but I get no sound), so things are getting better (at 
least for x86_64 users like me :) ).

I guess that now I have to find out why christine media player works and 
the others not :-m
