It works for me, I just have to change the /etc/default/avahi-daemon
AVAHI_DAEMON_START=1, I don't know why Ubuntu /etc/init.d/avahi_daemon
does not start the service.

Are you 100% certain that avahi-daemon is running? What output do you
get from "ps -A | grep avahi"? Ubuntu Edgy did break the avahi startup
scripts quite badly. Have you set AVAHI_DAEMON_START=1 in
/etc/default/avahi-daemon?
