how about ctrl+alt+del.  is that unresponsive?  overloading the system
can make it seem like the interface is frozen.  look for: enormous
memory leaks, recursive functions that never return, a spinning loop
that doesn't terminate, or worse: a spinning loop that forks new
processes, etc..  Bring up the system monitor (before your bug starts
the system freeze) and use it to watch for a change in system resources.
