Problems with theme-selector-capplet

  I have downloaded Gnome 1.0.53 rpms for SuSE 6.2 and I am having
problems to work with the theme applet.
  At first it didn't show any of the available themes, after some
poking in the system, I discovered that I had to symlink /usr/share/gtk
to /opt/gnome/share/gtk. After that I also had to symlink /usr/lib/gtk
to /opt/gnome/lib/gtk. Now I can see all the available themes but they
aren't shown properly.
  Every time I select a theme with pixmaps I get the error message :

  Gtk-WARNING **: GModule initialization check failed: Gtk+ version
too old (micro mismatch)

  And the theme pixmaps aren't shown.

  I have the Gtk+ that was provided with the Gnome rpms (1.2.6). Does
anyone have a clue about what is going on ?
