[xslt] lang() function

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to XSLT, libxslt and this list ;-)

I'm trying to use the lang() function, but it doesn't seem to work:

<xsl:if test="lang('nl')">
  Inhoudsopgave
</xsl:if>

despite the source document has the xml:lang="nl" attribute, this
condition returns false.

Am I doing something wrong?
