It would be possible for a project like KDE or GNOME to use a project
specific configuration file, mentioning the file types and how to look
for marked strings. With GNOME we could supply such a file with
gnome-common for instance. At least I think 'make dist' should be able
to check for translation files of the types gettext support natively.
