The right time to think about it is before you've written too much code.

The major hassle about being able to use XInternAtoms in Xt was restructuring
the code to be able to take advantage of the Xlib call (which, mea culpa,
wasn't in Xlib on day one).  This was much more work than the Xlib changes
and additions required.

So if you don't want to deal with a couple pages of code this week,
at least define and write a "XGetProperties" function that you call once that
returns the information you need appropriately: you can complete the
couple of pages of that routine properly later if you want.
