Dear usability list, I'd appreciate if some of you could comment on the permissions user interface proposed under [1]. Thanks in advance! [1] http://blogs.gnome.org/view/cneumair/2006/03/06/0 Christian, That's a great way to go about things. Kudos to you. After reading the comments I still have 2 comments: 1 - you say the user can click the [x] to close the confirmation/recursion dialogue and cancel. I think it might be best if there were a more obvious way to cancel, such as a cancel button. The user might panic and clicking the [x] button is never a certain thing (sadly). A third button in your dialogue to let the user easily identify how to cancel this process. 2 - perhaps when asking the user to confirm you could give a summary? You are changing these settings (current values) to these values. A quick review allows the user to confirm, recurse, or cancel. Thanks for not giving up on this problem. And I love the advanced mode. Perhaps rather than an Apply button or something outside the text input you could embed a "Go" icon or something (I think the Firefox 2.0 Chrome suggestion included this too). The advanced user can simply hit the Enter key, but the intermediate user (someone learning these things) can still initiate the action with the mouse. Kirk |
