The problem is that the algorithms for CMYK conversion and colour
management are patented, so are very tricky. What you are asking for
already exists though: colour correction for display.
Scribus and Gimp 2.4 can be given a colour profile for the display, and
will use it to correct any colours they display. Scribus supports CMYK
colours and will use the display profile to correct them for display.
