I agree in the strongest possible terms the terminal shortcut should be
removed. We fail as a Graphical User Interface and Desktop Enviroment if
ordinary users are forced to use the command line.
I expect it will be mildly annoying for more experienced users to add a
terminal shortcut to their panel (if their .login doesn't already open a
terminal for them) but if any of us feel ourselves reaching for the
terminal - instead of eating our own dogfood - it may indicate missing
functionality or something needs to be improved.
For what it is worth I like my panel to include Show Desktop and a link to
my Home directory (and a bunch of other junk not worth mentioning).
I notice how in the bug report how the shortcuts are described as
$WEB_BROWSER. The shortcuts in each case are set by the distributor to a
different hardcoded browser rather than say some kind of link to start
whatever has been set in gnome-default-applications-properties as the
default $WEB_BROWSER.
Sincerely
- Alan Horkan.
