How about adding a small eject icon ⏏ to a corner of the device icon. It
should be nearly outside the icon so it won't be hit accidentally.

This would also mark devices clearly as unmountable, for example
especially the CD-ROM device, which can under Linux/GNOME now only be
ejected by hitting "Eject" in the right-click menu.

It should also be added to the right of the device entries in the
"Places" menu.
