You would have a filesystem that automatically adapts to your collection
of removable disks. Especially when some of the stuff is on a fixed disk
and some stuff is on removable disks.

Of course you still have the trouble with labelling.

The really nice thing with this is if the copy retains enough
information
to be searchable. Often this doesn't require all the information in the
files. For example the tags from a mp3 file is sufficient.

If a search engine is incorporated (Medusa for example) it could index
the
removable media and when a user gets a hit in a specific file and tries
to
open it he/she could be told it is on that specific media.

With several gigabyte++ removable mediums and several new even larger
ones
entering market I believe there are more people than joust me that is
lost
trying to figure out what is stored on which one of those huge disks.
