You are so wrong it hurts.
Part of what drives users insane is the upgrade treadmill.

The other day i was "running" the gimp, mozilla and open office on Gnome
2.0 and it was a total disaster. It was so painfully and unbelievably
slow.

I dont think a Pentium 3 with 128 MB of RAM is a particularly old
system (maybe two years old).

There is a notion that Linux runs on old hardware (which is true in some
ways), and by extension people tend to also believe that linux
distributions which use Gnome will run on older hardware.

Please dont assume people have good hardware.
Dont even get me started on my crap monitor ...

As for Quit in mozilla, i agree it probably would be safer not to have
it, but i would much prefer if Quit would just quit
browser/composer/irc/etc but i dont think that is cause to completely get
rid of Quit.
