Yep. We've started on a shared IPC system
(http://www.freedesktop.org/software/dbus/) and once that's working,
we'll be in a position to do something like gconf.
I'm not sure MIME should go through such a system, though perhaps it
should. Neither GNOME nor KDE MIME system is based on gconf/kconfig
right now.
