how about 'hide all files' option ? ... what you don't see you don't
need to edit :)

well i am not a friend of this kind of features. note that the most
files on a unix system has basically no extensions (speaking of the
executable files) the few times i used another OS from a commercial
company i usually turned that feature off since i want to know what
files i have. but oki as long as there is an 'option' to turn that
i don't have a problem with that.
