Actually it has something like gconftool called "defaults". You can do
stuff like:
% defaults set blah.Bleh.Foo.Bar "value"
It also can query for certain preferences. It works a lot like gconftool
to me as a user.
But yea, on the control panels there really is not that much stuff to
waste your time toggling with. They just made it so utterly pretty by
default that not that many people want to tweak it. Unless they share
some genes with the people who do those pixmap gtk themes on
themes.org... :-/ Dunno. People are weird :^)
