I like "Panel gizmo".

Justification:

If it's just "gizmo" you still can't tell what it means by the name.
Prepending "panel" clears things up.

"Gizmo" sounds more fun than "miniapp". And "miniapp" makes those things
(avoiding the word "applet") sound like it does something useful, but they
are for the most part just for entertainment.
