At the risk of replying to my own post, please have a look at an initial
todo list (based on my summary in the previous email) and project page at:

I'm not quite sure as to what to do about involvement here; I'm not fond of
creating new mailing lists for everything, but I'm not sure if this fits
into any existing mailing lists happily.
