I did yesterday morning. I talked with lupus (he's our perl expert,
written gtk anf bonobo bindings for perl) and he didn't have a clue. He
thought it *could* be perl bug.

Why? It's caching. It makes the function (ideally) faster for not making
stat call twice (-d operator calls stat if filename is provided). Too
bad its not working for us (and seems like only for us) :)
I'll try to investigate further.
