0.4.0 didn't compile for me, but cvs HEAD did.

However, I don't like "make install"s, have you considered providing
some rpm:s for people to test?

I tried to build a rpm from the cvs source (after removing the
malformatted %changelog entries in the .spec file that made rpm
complain, then calling the version "20010510", and then creating a
20010510 .tar.gz) but in the end I got a rpm build error that I didn't
know what to do with:

RPM build error:
    No file found when matching:
/var/tmp/ximian-setup-tools-20010510-root/usr/share/hcm/default/*.xml


However, Johan was not afraid of "make install", so he probably can tell
something about what works and what not.
