I will look more on it later today.

There's another problem now with screensaver capplet : previews don't
work anymore
after I've upgraded to xscreensaver 3.32.
(control center 1.4.0.1 release).
Might this be the cause ? 
Changes since 3.29:   
                      * Removed the `-window-id' option from the hacks:
                        it never worked right, and was unnecessary.

If I downgrade back to xscreensaver 3.28 it works.
