We've discussed various ideas for geolocation in the past, but so far we
haven't had time to implement any of them. I agree that events should take
location into account.

There is a user-contributed patch for adding a map in our Redmine that may
be of interest:

I don't think we want to do this for various reasons, but we do monitor
Launchpad frequently to try to help our users.

Nobody wants their pictures to load slowly, so we try to optimize Shotwell
as much as possible. But for sufficiently large photos, it can be quite
slow. We're always open to specific suggestions of how to improve the speed
of Shotwell.
