Not true. You can send key and mouse events using the synthesize-event
command. Take a look at
http://www.ewanmellor.org.uk/chip/chip.php?file=keyboard-paste.jl
This uses synthesize-event to send a middle-click to an application, to act as
a synthesized paste event. It also shows the hacks necessary to work around
the problems in doing this with Emacs and Xterm and their ilk.
