I think what you're hitting is this bug:

I've had problems with that too, though not with the frequency you have.
There's supposed to be a patch there, but it doesn't show when I try
the links.

I'd love to see this fixed, as it's the only thing I find aggravating about
sawfish, but I don't know enough lisp to do it myself.
