0.8.7. I just realized after I sent this that it is probably a gstreamer issue.
You say that 0.8.9 fixes this?

Hi,
Are you using GStreamer 0.8.8 or GStreamer 0.8.9 ? There was a really
similar bug (rhythmbox eating 100% cpu when importing small files) in
previous versions.
