Planner-list Save to Postgres

I am very much a newby to Planner.

I am very familiar with postgres having used it for approx. 10 years.  The 
setup went without a hitch on SuSE 10.0.  Confirmed with a '\d' and a select 
command on the table 'phase'

using the "Save to Database" form I have entered the following:

Server: 192.168.56.3 which is the computer address.  Also tried 'localhost'  
The database and planner terminal are on the same machine.

Database:  plannerdb

Username:  maxw, being my login and is also the owner of the database.

Password:  The password for maxw.

the result is always   "Connection to database 'plannerdb localhost' failed." 
or 192.168.56.3

As I can use the database from the same terminal login by direct access I do 
not believe it is an authentication issue.

Can anyone advise me of my error

When this is sorted out I will try to use from a remote machine.
