Last I looked, the type checking for gobjects ate 5% or thereabouts
of cycles.  That's the whole pie, not just the checks for static
functions.

That being said, I can imagine static functions where I would like
to keep checks.  Sure, they aren't supposed to trigger, but life
isn't perfect.
