Building with a CVS install outside of /usr will /usr/lib/*.la still exists

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to compile gnome2 from cvs on a machine i don't have root on
(I'm fine on my own machines)

Basically its trying to link to libgobject and stuff from /usr/lib
rather than from /space/users/trent/gnome2/lib

I can't remove the .la files like I usually do, is there some way to get
around this?
