Ben,

you have to add the new line to the '/etc/ld.so.conf' with the
directory containing newly installed libraries, for example:
/usr/local/lib

Then run:

ldconfig

and all should be OK.

I recommend to re-compile all gnome2.2 libraries that you have
installed before ORbit, after changing the '/etc/ld.so.conf' and
running ldconfig.
