R: string <--> octect problem

Interesting: I'd like to pass to UTF-8; I find some documentations (Mark
Kuhn's) and I want to understand how and if my ORBit version (0.5.8) support
UTF-8.
I'd like to understand also what I've to do (what changes) in my application
to pass to UTF-8 format.
