The good news (sort of) is that you're not the only one.  I have the exact same
symptoms.  The bad news is that I also have the exact same configuration
(broadcom+ndiswrapper on gentoo) so there's no help there on narrowing down
where to point the finger.

Anyone got tips on how to make NM even more verbose about what it's doing
(dbus traffic perhaps?)
