Create New Wireless Network...

Is "Create New Wireless Network" currently working?
here i am not able to create a wireless network.
this is with Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01)
with kernel module orinoco_pci

looking through syslog i found 
localhost kernel: [4443694.888000] eth0: This firmware requires an ESSID in IBSS-Ad-Hoc mode.

if i create a ad-hoc network using iwconfig i have to set essid first, 
could that be the problem?

another question is New needed in the menu? 
would "Create Wireless Network" and "Connect to Wireless Network"
not be much better?
