I ran further experiments at home this evening.
# NetworkManager --no-daemon
$ NetworkManagerInfo
Produced normal operation on my home network and was surprising quick to
connect in both wired and wireless mode. What failed was running
NetworkManager as a daemon.
# service NetworkManager start
$ NetworkManagerInfo
All I get in syslog is
Jan 21 21:05:45 localhost NetworkManager: starting...
Jan 21 21:05:45 localhost NetworkManager: eth0: Driver support level is
fully-supported
Jan 21 21:05:45 localhost NetworkManager: Adding device 'eth0' (wired)
to our list.
Jan 21 21:05:45 localhost NetworkManager: eth1: Driver support level is
fully-supported
Jan 21 21:05:45 localhost NetworkManager: Adding device 'eth1'
(wireless) to our list.
Jan 21 21:05:45 localhost NetworkManager: SWITCH: best device changed
I DO NOT SEE
NetworkManager: Activation (eth1) started...
NetworkManager: Activation (eth1/wireless): waiting for an access point.
NetworkManager: Activation (eth1/wireless): waiting for an access point.
NetworkManager: Activation (eth1/wireless): waiting for an access point.
as I did in no-daemon mode. NM is getting stuck in daemon mode.
