and sorry to butt in on this thread as a newbie on this list, but...

One  word of free advice from someone who keeps a 10 year old computer
on  his  desk  just  because  he  hasn't  managed  to find a similarly
ergonomic replacement yet:

Get  an  old  PowerMac  with  a copy of MacOS Classic, install Default
Folder  and  FinderPoP  on  it and you will see how _easy_ and _quick_
folder and file "navigation" can be.

And then copy the functionality and GUI.
