You should use a file altering monitor like fam or gamin. But it seems
that sometimes gaim fails on desktop :-(

BTW is it a know gamin bug, isn't it?

Yeah. Open $HOME/Desktop in a nautilus window and refresh it. But this
is the list for nautilus developers, not users :-| ... so forget it.
