I have a similar/same problem.  Though it all works fine for me if I use
the smb method to copy files around or whatever, but when I browse the
network I get a list of computers but am unable to browse inside of
them.  Even specifying the username and password in the uri doesn't
work.  But going directly to a share like smb://computer/share works
great, opens a dialog for password and the such.  I'm running current
fedora development.
