How to associate an application - mission impossible?

Hi,

I use nautilus 2.8.1.

How can I associate an application to open .jpg files?

I tried "Open with Other Application" but it only added my application
("gqview") to the context menu. 

I want my application to be launched when double-clicking on file.

BTW. the current context menu behaviour is totally crazy, I have:
Open with "Image Viewer"
Open in New Window
Open with "GIMP Image Editor"
Open with "gqview"
Open with Other Application

So this menu is big and useless.
I would expect to have:
Open
Open with ...

or something like that.
