There's actually two problems here:
1. Not all locations can be reached from the desktop. This can not be
fixed entirely, for example for remote servers. It's not always possible
to list them.
2. The ctrl-L 'shortcut' that actually is not a shortcut because there is
nothing it cuts short is not discoverable at all. Gnome is doing a GUI,
there should be a graphical way to perform such an important action.
