i gather this isn't a new problem. i'm trying to find a way to fix things.
i have Nautilus v2.2.1, distributed with RH9 2.4.20-20.9 "shrike". at login,
and for a short time after, i can open a window to files and directories
on a win-tel box that is on the same network. later, any attempt to do
that again returns a message that Nautilus 'cannot display contents',
subsequent attempts will cause Nautilus to segfault & restart. after that,
i'm able to browse folders/directories on the win-tel box again for a while.
someone at 'bugzilla.org' tells me this is an old problem, but did not offer
any solution. i found Nautilus v2.5.5 through ftp, but attempts to install that
return outdated version errors on several files -- GTK+, Libart, Libxml (for eel.
many more for Nautilus).
so... does some version later than 2.2.1 fix this? where do i find all the
files i need? thanks.
