Is it possible to change the size of the desktop grid ?

I'm running nautilus-2.4.0 on Mdk and I feel the size of the grid on 
the desktop too large. There is too much space between each icon and I 
can put  less icons on the desktop now when the snap-to-grid feature is 
enabled (I'm feeling like falling back to a 800x600 desktop on a 15 
inch screen...). I've quickly searched through the gconf keys but 
didn't find any to change this size. Is it real ? I can't change this ?
