Hi, you're best off reporting feature requests to bugzilla.gnome.org, where
they won't get lost.

However, this particular request was fulfilled when Nautilus was first
released, believe it or not! It's just hard to find. :-) Here's how to do
it:

Navigate to the directory you want to customise, click Edit > Backgrounds
and Emblems. You can drag patterns and colours to the Nautilus window, which
will set the background on a per-directory basis. Presto! :-)
