I'm a native English speaker with a linguistics background, and
I agree with Alex. :)
You can't empty the contents of the trash. "Empty foo of bar" doesn't
mean "Remove foo from bar". Actually it means the reverse -- "Remove
bar from foo, leaving anything else that might be there, such as baz."
An example would be "The awful music quickly emptied the hall of
listeners." -- that is, put the hall into the state "empty of
listeners", having no listeners in it. "Empty the contents of the
trash" would mean putting the contents into a state where there was
no trash in them, which doesn't make much sense.
I would probably go with "Permanently delete all items in trash?" or
something of that sort.
