I filed a feature request bug a while back proposing a generalized
solution to this: Named Custom Views.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62106
Essentially, you could create a custom view that keeps track of
different preferences (zoom, file info, background, etc.) and
includes/excludes files based on *? or regex patterns, and assign it a
name. Then, individual directories (e.g., the desktop) can be assigned a
custom view that filters out all the junk you don't want to look at but
program Z wants to put there. So, rather than having preferences like
"View ~ files on desktop" and "View . files on desktop" , and "View #
files on desktop", you would assign a custom view to the desktop that
excludes *#*, .*, and ~* and plugins.trace.
If someone would kindly implement this, I would happily use it. (:->)
