Hi, After 3 cups of tea, about 5 hours of following function calls and adding debugging, and with some great help from Dave, I managed to pin down the (probably not only one) problem with my files never appearing. There probably are some other problems in the stack, but this bug is so silly... I'd like to commit the patch to both the gnome-2-0-0 and to HEAD. I checked for other bad uses of G_N_ELEMENTS, and this one seems to be the only one. Sorry to whoever wrote this code, I'm annoyed, but now rio500: is lightning fast, so I'm a happy puppy.
