There's more to it. Apple calls the feature "spring-loaded folders".

You can tunnel down any number of levels into folders. All the ones except
the last close automatically. Also, the folders open right where the mouse
is, rather than in their saved positions. Even if you turn the delay period
off, you still use the feature by hitting the space bar.

This feature was not included in the OS X Finder.

Anyway, it's not my #1 favorite Macintosh Finder feature that's missing from
Nautilus, but I wouldn't reject a high-quality patch that implements it.
